My Experience with Forgiveness

*Forgiveness is important. Thank you for forgiving my mistakes, English isn’t my native language. But I’m working to get better.*

Whenever I decide to talk about tricky subjects such as health, success, spirituality or forgiveness, I do my best to simply share my experiences. Since I don’t consider myself an expert in any of these areas, I usually don’t feel comfortable taking a firm position about it. But it happens. It’s rare, but it happens. However, I have acknowledged something. When I decide to forgive someone, I do it for myself first. Why? Well, I find it really draining to hold a grudge against people. Moreover, all this negative energy isn’t good for my skin. That’s why I work on myself to be able to let go, and forgive more easily, for my own good. Oh, one precision, I forgive but I don’t forget. Let me explain how I deal with that. So, let us consider a case. I have discovered that my friend Bruce is a highly skilled liar. Bruce told me once: “Sorry Ella, I didn’t have time to work on the project. My mother was sick and I had to take care of her”. A few weeks later, the truth came out. Bruce got a hangover after a very big party. That’s why he couldn’t work. What I find “admirable” with Bruce is that he ALWAYS has reasons not to accomplish what’s expected from him. This is what I’ve heard:

  • My mum was sick
  • My cat was depressed
  • I was busy with donations for a charity (Lol, I exaggerate a little)

I quickly understood that Bruce wasn’t reliable (and not that skilled in lies as I once thought). For a few days, it made me feel upset. But then, I’ve decided to forgive myself first (for trusting him), and to forgive Bruce (as I said, holding a grudge is tiring). But for my mental health, I no longer trust him. I forgive, but I don’t forget. I have found interesting resources about this topic. I mean, it was interesting for me (and that’s why I’m talking about it). Since we live in a free will Universe, with duality sharing our journey, I acknowledge that it might not resonate with others. Anyway, the links are below. Have fun!
